Will my license be suspended for DUI before I go to court?

Upon an arrest for DUI and after you are issued a paper license and proposed suspension, you must request a hearing within 30 days or your license will be automatically be suspended on the 46th day. The length of suspension will depend upon whether you submitted to a breath test (we generally recommend you do), the results of the test and whether you have any prior alcohol related traffic cases on your record.

At a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge, an Attorney can argue that no action should be taken against your license and/or seek to modify any suspension to allow at least limited driving privileges. If you request a hearing before retaining counsel, make sure to include your $125 check payable to the Maryland State Treasurer.
