Houlon Berman managing partner, Richard Finci, represents 84 year old retired physician Dr. Leslie Altstatt, who has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse and sex offenses.
Police arrested him on Friday, April 25th at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland where he is under Home Hospice Care for advanced COPD and requires oxygen and heavy doses of medication for his comfort. Police took him into custody, dragging along his oxygen equipment at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday. Mr. Finci attended his initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner and was fortunately able to obtain his release by approximately 10 p.m. Friday night.
Montgomery County police issued a press release on Monday expressing concern for the possibility that Dr. Altstatt’s past work as a “pediatrician” may have allowed him access to other children who may be victims. This outrageous press release will be the focus of close scrutiny in the ongoing defense investigation of this case.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Dr. Altstatt worked as a medical researcher in a laboratory for the U.S. Army at Walter Reed Army Hospital and only briefly as a practicing pediatrician in Hawaii in the early 60’s. The motive for the press release will be fully investigated and brought to light when determined.
